It's not been great cycling weather lately! It was perhaps unsurprising therefore that today's Swaledale ride had to be cancelled; 55-60 mph winds were forecast.
In the meantime, in the shelter of the Tees Valley, conditions were relatively calm. This allowed for four SOC cyclists to ride over to East Rounton, via Hurworth, Low Dinsdale and Girsby. A tail wind was appreciated, it was pleasantly mild and the sun even managed to show it's face.
On arrival at Roots cafe, staff offered us a warm welcome and ably satisfied the nutritional requirements of us elite cyclists!
One of our number subsequently headed back east, via Hutton Rudby and Yarm. The remaining three rode west in the direction of the Cowtons, Moulton and Barton. I have it on good authority, home made scones were involved at some point!
After the initial disappointment of a ride cancellation, the day turned out to be an unexpected pleasure. Just a shame that the author missed out on those scones!
