Book now for the Hathersage weekend in November!
Now it's officially spring (although it still feels like winter) and we have summer to look forward to it's time you started thinking about autumn.
The Club has exclusive use of Hathersage youth hostel in the Peak District for the nights of 8th and 9th November 2013. The private rooms have already been taken although the dormitories are reasonably small - 4 and 6-bedded.
The cost will be £25 per person (£12.50 per night). You can reserve a place by paying a deposit of £10 per person. This can either be sent by cheque (made payable to Swaledale Outdoor Club) to me or by a direct bank transfer. Send me an email if you wish to book a place.:

The Tour de France is coming to Swaledale!

The fantastic news is out! The 2014 Tour de France is coming to Yorkshire. It will start in Leeds on Saturday July 5th 2014 and then head north over Buttertubs Pass and all the way down Swaledale. Full details on the Welcome to Yorkshire website. On Sunday 6th July the route goes from York to Sheffield. Full details of both days of the Grand Depart are also on this link.
On the Saturday the route goes over Grinton Moor (from Grinton). All the accommodation in the area is now booked up. Some of us have secured some camping space at the YH for the Friday night. It might be worth contacting them if you are looking for accommodation. There is also the possibility the Askrigg Outdoor Centre may have space.
The best view point we think is just above the YH on the bend where you can see the competitors coming and where, hopefully, they will all go a bit slower (!!) for the pictures!
Many people will be cycling in from Richmond and the surrounding area but at the moment we don't know whether there will be a rolling road closure or the roads will be closed earlier on in the day. More details about this nearer the time.
On Sunday 7th the route goes from York to Sheffield and goes over Holme Moss which will be the best view point for those that would prefer to see the event on the Sunday.
Either way both days will be extremely busy so planning and timing will be crucial.

The 2013 Swaledale Marathon is now full and no more entries are available.
Once again entries have sold out very quickly this year. Please bear with us as we work through the entry applications. Forms are processed in strict order of receipt through our letter box. Successful entrants will receive their confirmation by post or by email (according to the method of entry).
We're sorry that we are likely to be over-subscribed. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised by post or email and have their payment returned. Processing takes us several days, so we'd appreciate your patience. If you've been unsuccessful this year, we hope you'll try again in 2014.

The 2012 Photographic competition was again a success and the overall winner was John Birtill with his photo of Finn seconding his dad on "Fang" on Gouther Crag. Full results here.
